Win marks back-to-back divisional victories

One word sums up Engle’s IFA Kayak Tour season in 2019 – domination. The angler has won both Florida West divisional events and also placed second in both Florida East divisional tournaments.
“It’s been my best year for fishing the IFA Kayak Tour,” said Engle. “I put in a lot of time. I travel and do a lot of tournaments, but a sometimes it’s a little bit of luck on the right day.”
Recent rains had anglers scrambling to find fish. Engle fished the day before in the IFA Redfish Tour so he knew going into the IFA Kayak side that the fish were going to be displaced.
“All the rainfall had everything thrown off,” said Engle. “I didn’t have any real game plan at all. Some friends of mine saw some fish in a new place. I gambled and went to an area I had never been.”
After putting in at daybreak, Engle didn’t take long to get on quality fish.
“You couldn’t ask for a better tournament,” said Engle. “There was almost no breeze with morning fog that kept it overcast. Maybe after 30 minutes of fishing, I caught my 20-inch trout. Ten minutes later, I landed my 26-inch redfish. I knew with those lengths, I would be in the top three.”
Both of Engle’s fish were landed with a top-water bait thrown over grass flats and oyster bars. After letting a couple of good fish unbutton and landing one more fish, he was finished for the day.
“That was my entire day,” said Engle. “I got a bit lucky by catching the right fish early in the morning. The fishing really died after that.”
The angler won the $1,000 first-place prize and added the $100 Berkley Gulp! Big Trout award.
Second-place finisher Eugene Holler, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, measured a total of 45.88 inches to win $655. The angler fished the Horseshoe Bay area with Berkley Gulp!.
Joseph Holler took third place with a 19-inch trout and a 28.13-inch redfish, which was the longest of the tournament, taking the $100 Berkley Big Redfish award along with $100 in Berkley products for catching it on Berkley Gulp!.
The next stop for the IFA Kayak Tour is Grand Isle, Louisiana, on September 13-14 for the 2019 championship event. Anglers who enter at least two events and compete in at least one event will be qualified for the 2019 IFA Kayak Tour Championship.
The fastest-growing kayak fishing tournament trail in the country, the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour events are catch-photograph-release tournaments, offering inshore kayak anglers from a multitude of states the opportunity to participate in competitive fishing tournaments with low entry fees and minimal travel requirements.
