Varsity Bass Shootout Gives High School Anglers Opportunity to Compete Alongside Pro Anglers on Keystone Lake

The Varsity Bass Shootout will pair high school anglers with pro anglers in a one-day competition on Oklahoma’s Keystone Lake on May 24. This new program is the latest effort by Oklahoma and Texas pro anglers to foster a love for competitive fishing for Oklahoma youth anglers.

Thirty-five pro anglers will each team up with a high school angler in a fishing contest with sizable prizes and bragging rights up for grabs. The Varsity Bass Shootout is an extension of a youth program founded and managed by former B.A.S.S. pro angler Kenyon Hill. The Norman-based angler fished professionally for 30 years and wants to give young anglers the opportunity to learn and fish with current and former pro anglers.

“This is a great way to expose kids to the top edge of the sport of fishing and keep a new generation of anglers excited about the sport,” said Hill. “Along with the seminars we host where our pros give tips to young anglers, this provides a fun and exciting experience to help grow competitive fishing.”

Some of the notable pro anglers participating will be Dale Hightower, Bradley Hallman, Kenyon Hill, Luke Palmer, Darrel Robertson, Dustin Reneau and Shonn Goodwin. The event will be live streamed at Red Dirt Outdoors TV’s Youtube channel and Facebook page. BassZone.com will also provide wrap-up coverage. The weigh-in will be open to the public and is set for 3:00 p.m. at Salt Creek Marina.

The Varsity Bass Shootout is made possible by these generous sponsors: Bill’s Marine, Plenum Medical, Shoreline Boat Repair, Salt Creek Marina, Lucky Lure Tackle and Lance Crawford.
